Jersey Boys was, hands down, the most difficult show I did in 2024, and possible one of the most difficult shows I have done in my whole career. This show is just an absolute beast in the best circumstances, and we were attempting it in a 250-seat former movie theatre. I was as prepared as I thought I needed to be, and every day presented a new challenge. I wanted the show to look as polished as it sounded. One of my greatest pet peeves as a designer is sloppy mic dressing, and I wanted these guys to look as good as they sounded. I had to get the most discreet mic dressing I could swing while still leaving room for the sound. I had limited resources to build foldback for a giant wall of sound, and ended up editing the system design a couple times throughout the tech and preview process. This whole experience felt like running a marathon at a full sprint, but the end result was, I think, one of my best-sounding musicals.
